Lipman, Genes and Radiowaves

James Nottingham's blog - Lipman, Genes and Radiowaves

Here's three interesting articles/websites I've come across last week: The first is an article challenging the idea that genes have fixed qualities ("There are no genetic factors that can be studied independently of the environment. This means that everything about us - our personalities, our intelligence, our abilities - are actually determined by the lives we lead. The very notion of "innate" no longer holds together.") Read the full article here.

The second is an obituary from the New York Times about Matthew Lipman, creator of P4C, who died on Boxing Day, 2010. I also wrote about the passing of Prof Lipman in my previous blog entry: see here

And finally, I found this website very interesting: Radiowaves, a social learning environment that enables schools to create safe internet radio, podcasts, videos and blogs. Giving teachers the tools to moderate all pupils' work and control who can see it online, this safe environment allows students to easily upload video, podcasts, pictures, blogs and create their own customisable web page. So far, children in 25 countries are making use of this service, bringing their schools and their learning (kicking and screaming, perhaps?) into the 21st century.
